Suddenly we're less than 2 months away from Claire-Bear's first birthday, which is hard to imagine. It doesn't help that my semesters just melt away as soon as they get started, so before I know it, time is gone.
In just the last 6 days, Claire has picked up a bunch of new skills. Right now she gets around the house by doing a modified booty scoot (boot-scootin' boogy). She just will not crawl, but she's content with the booty scoot, and I've given up on trying to make her crawl. Don't tell my OT friends. In the past few days, she figured out how to get from lying down to sitting down, started cruising more consistently, learned to reach down for something on the floor and get back to standing, and how to sit down carefully when standing. It's pretty incredible to see her learn something different from one day to the next. We're pretty sure she'll walk by her first birthday, but it's hard to imagine that Colin had already taken steps by now. She seems too small to walk.
She loves to eat, and I think the only thing she hasn't seemed too interested in is eggs surprisingly enough. No allergic reactions like Colin had, either to eggs or antibiotics. I have a feeling she'll dig into her birthday cake when the time comes.
She's been a really happy kid, despite rarely sleeping at daycare. She sleeps 12-13 hours at night. Starting to give kisses...big open mouth kisses. She waves bye-bye, says mama, dada, buhbuh, and she signs all done and sometimes says it. Occasionally she signs more. She shakes her head no when she doesn't really want something. She doesn't care much for books, but we'll change her mind yet.

Big brother has been...going through some tough times. The last 6 months of 2 were rough for all of us, and it looks like the last 6 months of 3 are going to be the same. He's very emotional lately, and he's becoming more persnickety. He doesn't want his shoes to be wet or his shorts to be dirty. We're using a lot of creativity to avoid meltdowns. He LOVES to pretend, and everyone needs to watch him all of the time. He loves an audience. He still eats pretty well for a 3-year-old, eating from all of the food groups at least a few times a week. He would listen to books all day, and he's getting better at rhyming words and figuring out what words start with which letter.
Both kids took a round of swimming lessons after Christmas. Claire seems to enjoy the water, though it falls at nap time. Colin usually loves it, and he has gone underwater to get a ring before, and he can almost do a backfloat on his now. We're set to do soccer again in the spring, in April and through May, then we'll enjoy some time off from the activities for a while. I'm hoping to keep the kids home with me 2x a week during the summer.
