Good-bye October

First: Happy Birthday to my sister Casie!

Second: we have a 14-month old now.  October was a busy month for us, and November looks to be even busier, especially for Peter.  I finished teaching my time-intensive class, so the rest of my semester is pretty smooth sailing at work.  I'm down to just one class at a time for my doctorate, and I got approval from the University to do my project, which is wonderful news.

We decided to try and start transitioning Colin in preparation for Daylight Saving Time about mid-October.  We wanted to try to keep him up about 15 minutes later than his normal bedtime, and slowly push back for the rest of the month.  We were aiming for 7:15 on the first night; at 7:03, this is what we had:

Our first mistake was handing over the pacifier and Douglas.  That's a recipe for snoozing on the couch.  Things did get better.  Although he's lately been in a habit of waking up between 4-5 and struggling to go back to sleep.

My parents came over to help us attempt to tame our yard before winter.  Colin spent most of the time preventing Grandma from doing much of anything other than playing with him.  Finally he sat on her lap while she weeded, and when I came over to check on them, he was asleep in her lap, and she had no idea.  I tried to get him to wake up enough to eat lunch, but he fell asleep with food in his mouth, so we quickly gave up on that idea.

On our one day of Fall Break, we kept Colin home from daycare and went to the apple orchard to get apples, fudge, good smelling candles, apple cider slushies, and pumpkins.  Colin was mostly interested in the other kids playing.

And his tongue.

New skills that Colin has been working on: feeding himself with a spoon.

And removing his own pants.  He left the room with them on and came back without them.

At least he brought them back with him.

For Halloween, he got to go "trick-or-treating" in the dorms, meaning I took him to visit one of my students who is an RD, and then he went to see Peter's students who had their bell concert that night.  He wore his costume again to daycare on Halloween, and that was about it.  We didn't go trick-or-treating together.  Hopefully next year we can do a few houses.

He was pretty enthralled with looking at himself in his costume.

Our little lion.

Other Colin info to share: still not very interested in talking.  He's finally starting to imitate a little more, mocking us with certain sounds.  He babbles with lots of different sounds but uses only a few words with meaning.  The kid is obsessed with bananas, so he usually says "Nana" when he's hungry (which is all.the.time.)  He eats so much food, all the time.  He still likes to say "Ella," and he'll say "Night-night" when it's time for bed (but only if we say it first).  He has good receptive language, and he has been listening to me when I tell him not to do something.  He's definitely turning into more of a toddler though--we see flashes of those toddler tantrums.

We're looking forward to Thanksgiving with my families, and then seeing Aunt Jan, Grandmom, and baby A for a short time.

I'm off to watch the rest of this Colts game and hope things turn around!  It's sad without Reggie Wayne!
